For a few more days, it’s still National Arts and Humanities Month

October 25, 2011

National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM) is a coast-to-coast celebration of the arts and culture in America. Held every October and coordinated by Americans for the Arts, it is the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation.

As part of this celebration, arts and humanities events across the nation are featured online.  This national listing includes two South Carolina arts organizations:  ArtWorks of Beaufort and Brookgreen Gardens  have each posted an October event.  Check them out  and consider which of your events might be added to the map before the month ends.

According to the Arts Action Fund that advocates for the arts nationally,  President Obama issued the following White House proclamation that recognizes the value of the arts and humanities and kicked off this month’s celebrations:

“We must recognize the contributions of the arts and humanities not only by supporting the artists of today, but also by giving opportunities to the creative thinkers of tomorrow. Educators across our country are opening young minds, fostering innovation, and developing imaginations through arts education.”
